In-Tuned® BIG-5 Model for Optimal Functioning: Extrinsic Factors for Self-Regulation

The COVID 19 challenge has changed our lives in more ways and more quickly than anything most of us have every experienced in our lifetime.
I just received notification there will be no school in my home state of Arizona for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, and yesterday the country was put on notice there will not be business as usual, with social distancing ordered throughout the month of April.
Over the course of this unprecedented shut down I will be sharing my In-Tuned® BIG-5 Model for Optimal Functioning in several different ways. Although I work specifically with children who have Brain-Based Disorders (BBD’s) and provide training to parents and support providers who work with children, this model applies to ANYONE right now who is either interested in improving their level of function or working super hard to maintain it.
With all of our children at home I feel it’s imperative to focus on the In-Tuned® BIG-5 Factor: Self-Regulation System, which is actually the only system I break down into two subsystems, including Extrinsic Factors and Intrinsic Factors.
Extrinsic Factors are those outside influences impacting a child’s ability to self-regulate.
Intrinsic Factors are the unique components the child brings to the table (more on that later).
We must, more than ever before focus on the Extrinsic Factors contributing to our children’s optimal self-regulation to help them through this time and for their lifetime.
Here is my In-Tuned® BIG-5 Model map:
Look at each component of this model and question how you can optimize each, so our children (and us) come out better on the other side of this crisis.
Something to think about.

P.S. Thank you to all who gave such positive feedback about the video last week. I’m glad you found it useful. I am committed to being of use!!
